Lyon Airport to Courchevel private transfer

How do I get from Lyon Airport to Courchevel?

Here is every option — private transfer, train via Moûtiers, coach and rental car — with drive times, prices and our local tips for the 3 Vallées.

Short answer: Lyon Airport to Courchevel is about 190 km and 2h30 by road. The easiest way is a private transfer (from €490 per vehicle for up to 7 people with Squeed). The train is possible but needs a change and a bus from Moûtiers, and a rental car means snow chains, mountain roads and expensive parking.

Courchevel is one of the most famous ski resorts in the world, at the heart of Les 3 Vallées. Many visitors fly into Lyon Saint-Exupéry Airport (LYS): it has flights from all over Europe, a TGV station right next to the terminal, and no border crossing on the way to the Alps.

This guide explains how to get from Lyon Airport to Courchevel, and how to choose the right option for your trip.

The route: Lyon Airport to Courchevel

The journey from Lyon Airport to Courchevel follows motorways for most of the way, then climbs into the Tarentaise valley:

  1. Lyon Airport → Chambéry → Albertville on the A43 and A430 motorways (about 1h30).
  2. Albertville → Moûtiers on the N90 expressway along the Tarentaise valley (about 25 minutes).
  3. Moûtiers → Courchevel, the mountain road up to Courchevel Le Praz, 1550, 1650 and 1850 (about 30 minutes).

In total, count around 2h30 in normal traffic. On Saturday changeover days in winter, the road around Moûtiers is one of the busiest in the Alps: allow 3h30 or more, especially in the afternoon.

Option 1: Private transfer (the easiest)

A private transfer is the simplest way to get from Lyon Airport to Courchevel. Your driver tracks your flight, waits in the arrivals hall (or at the TGV station) with a name sign, loads your skis and luggage, and drives you directly to your chalet or hotel — no change in Moûtiers, no waiting for other passengers.

  • Drive time: about 2h30, door to door.
  • Price with Squeed: from €490 per vehicle in a Mercedes V-Class for up to 7 people — around €70 per person for a full group.

Option 2: Train via Moûtiers

You can travel by train from Lyon to Moûtiers-Salins-Brides-les-Bains, the nearest station to Courchevel, usually with a change in Chambéry. From Moûtiers, you still need a bus, taxi or private transfer for the last 25 km up the mountain. Check timetables on SNCF Connect.

The train is a good option if you travel light, but with skis, boots and suitcases the changes quickly become tiring — and the total journey is usually longer than by road.

Option 3: Coach and shared shuttle

In winter, coaches and shared shuttles run between Lyon Airport and the Tarentaise resorts, mostly on weekends. They are cheaper per seat, but they follow fixed timetables, stop in several villages and do not wait if your flight is late.

Option 4: Rental car

Renting a car at Lyon Airport gives you freedom, but check three things before you choose it:

  • Winter equipment is mandatory in Savoie from 1 November to 31 March: winter tyres, or snow chains or socks in the car.
  • The road from Moûtiers to Courchevel is a mountain road with hairpin bends, which can be snowy and icy.
  • Parking in Courchevel is limited and expensive, and most visitors barely use their car once they arrive.
